You can close your CD Baby account by submitting a request to our Support team. However, before doing so, it's essential to make sure all necessary steps are completed to avoid potential issues with residual earnings or tax documentation.
How to close your account
- Cancel all active releases: Ensure that all your titles have been completely canceled for digital distribution. You may need to take additional actions related to services such as Legacy CD Baby Pro, HearNow, Boost services, and Social Video Monetization. For a comprehensive list, head here.
- Download your End of Year Tax Statement: Access and download your tax statement from the Payment & Tax Information page in your dashboard.
- Download sales reports: Obtain your sales reports for record-keeping purposes. For guidance on downloading sales reports, see How to download Sales Reports.
- Once you've followed the above steps, or if you never utilized CD Baby services, you can submit a request for account closure.
Things to note
- If any of your releases included CD Baby Legacy Pro Publishing, please review this article before closing your account: How do I cancel my CD Baby Legacy Pro Publishing administration agreement?
- Some sales may not appear in your account immediately. Most sales are reported 2–3 months after they occur, but some partners report only once or twice per calendar year. (For more information about your sales reports, read here.)
- If you close your account before all sales have been reported, we may be unable to pay you directly. We recommend leaving your account accessible (but inactive, meaning no live titles) to allow any residual sales to be paid to you successfully.
- There are no annual fees, and there's no cost to leave an account open but inactive, even if your releases have been canceled.
- If you've been paid during the current calendar year, we will send your tax documents via post to the address on file at the time of account closure. In closing your account, you'll need to acknowledge that the mailing address on file is correct, and that you'll need to proactively notify us if this changes.
