If you no longer want CD Baby to administer your publishing rights for legacy Pro releases, you can request cancellation. Once processed, CD Baby will relinquish its claim and stop collecting new publishing royalties after an effective date.
How to cancel CD Baby Legacy Pro Publishing
- Submit a request to CD Baby Support using this form.
- Use “CDB PRO CANCELLATION” in your subject line.
- Include the following details:
- Your CD Baby login name / username
- Email address on file
- Artist name
- Name(s) of the release(s) you want to cancel
- A brief explanation of why you’re canceling
Relinquishing our claims
- CD Baby processes your request and ends its publishing claim for the specified releases.
- The agreement ends on the last day of the calendar quarter in which you request cancellation (this is the effective date).
- Example: a request made on January 1 becomes effective on March 31
- CD Baby notifies your PROs and collection societies of the change.
- Your next publisher can claim royalties after the effective date.
- In some cases, until a new publisher claims the works, the societies may still route royalties via CD Baby.
Royalties and obligations after cancellation
- There is a one-year post-term collection period. During this time, CD Baby will continue collecting and paying you royalties earned before the effective date.
- If you would like to close your account, it's recommended that all CD Baby Legacy Pro titles have been cancelled for at least 6-12 months since some of our partners only pay annually/once a year. Otherwise, there will likely be payments still pending for the release and you will waive your right to these earnings.
Things to note
- Submissions you cancel for Pro Publishing will still be listed as a Pro Publishing submissions inside your CD Baby Member account.
- Cancelling Pro Publishing stops CD Baby’s administrative control but doesn’t erase past publishing registrations.
- Some collecting societies may take time to recognize changes; royalty routing may not change immediately.
- The Pro Publishing service was discontinued as of August 8, 2023. Only releases enrolled before that date are considered “Legacy Pro”.
