We're not able to make post-finalization changes for submissions older than 3 years. These types of releases are referred to as 'Legacy Submissions' or 'Legacy Releases'. This includes changes and corrections to metadata or audio, as well as the ability to opt into new services, such as CDB Boost.
Why can't I update an old release?
- Requirements set by our partners change over time. The older a release is, the more likely it is that its metadata no longer conforms to the current requirements.
- This makes us unable to redeliver that same metadata to places it has been delivered before, and sometimes unable to deliver it as-is to new services who may ask for more information than was gathered at the time of submission.
- Think of it like software: software updates are possible to a certain point, but eventually, a new version of the software is released and updating the old software doesn't work anymore - you need the new software version.
What can I do if I want to update a legacy release, or opt into a new service?
- If you want to make a change to a legacy release, you'll need to re-release the album or single.
- This provides the opportunity to add any missing metadata, refresh the existing metadata, and keep your release up to the modern metadata standards.
- This also limits potential problems with future partners, and keeps your release eligible for any new services offered by us or those DSPs.
- To do this, you'll need to cancel the original submission and create a new release submission within your CD Baby account.
