CDB Boost is an optional $39.99 add-on that helps eligible releases collect additional royalties and pursue sync licensing opportunities. It combines three services: U.S. mechanical royalty collection, SoundExchange Rights Owner Share collection, and sync licensing.
Quick summary:
- Original songs may be eligible for all three services.
- Cover songs and public-domain works may be eligible for SoundExchange collection and sync licensing, but not MLC mechanical collection.
- CDB Boost is available globally, although some collections apply only to U.S. activity.
- Sync placements are not guaranteed.
What CDB Boost includes
U.S. mechanical royalty collection
For eligible original songs, CD Baby can:
- Register the works with The Mechanical Licensing Collective (The MLC)
- Collect eligible U.S. streaming mechanical royalties through The MLC
- Access other eligible mechanical royalty sources through Music Reports, Inc.
Learn more in Understanding the Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC).
SoundExchange collection
CD Baby can register eligible sound recordings with SoundExchange and collect the Rights Owner Share of U.S. non-interactive digital performance royalties on your behalf.

Sync licensing
CD Baby can represent eligible music for possible placements in film, television, games, and advertising. If a placement is secured, CD Baby negotiates the applicable fee. Enrollment does not guarantee a placement.

Add CDB Boost to a release
You can add CDB Boost for $39.99 when you submit a release through CD Baby. The service is available to artists worldwide.
If you already collect U.S. mechanical royalties or SoundExchange royalties through another service, review your existing agreements before enrolling. CDB Boost complements other royalty services, but duplicate claims or registrations can create conflicts.
