Classical album titles follow specific conventions to make works easily identifiable. Use the album title to identify the work or collection. Include composer names when they help distinguish a release, and format them consistently across the album.
Title one composer’s work
For an album of works by one composer, use the composer’s last name followed by the work or collection title. For example, 'Mozart: "Toy" Symphony in G Major'.
For a single work, use its recognized title and any necessary catalog or version information.
Title works by multiple composers
If the album includes works by two composers in the same genre or collection, list both composers before the work title. For example, 'Mozart & Haydn: String Quartet'.
If the works are different, separate the composer and work groupings with a dash. For collections with several composers and works, make the scope clear without putting the complete track list in the album title. For example, 'Allegri: Miserere – Palestrina: Missa Papae Marcelli'.
Check consistency
Keep the album title consistent with the work titles, composer credits, and artwork. Add a version or arrangement description only when it accurately describes the recording.
