If your release includes a famous or well-known artist, having them on CD Baby’s “Watchlist” means we need to verify that you have the proper rights before distribution. You’ll be asked to submit a signed artist agreement to prove the collaboration is valid.
Because of this verification requirement, there will be a delay before your music goes live on partner platforms.
What documentation do you require for watchlist artists?
- To clear the watchlist status, your submitted artist agreement should include:
- Legal names and physical addresses of all parties involved.
- Clear information about compensation arrangements, including whether it’s a work-for-hire.
- Details about the content being used — such as song name, release date, and how the artist is involved.
- Missing or incomplete information may cause further delays.
How do I complete my submission with a watchlist artist?
- Respond to the email from CD Baby with your artist agreement attached.
- Ensure the agreement meets the documentation standards above, so it can be reviewed by our digital inspection team.
- Once approved, your release can proceed to delivery — but until approval, it will remain pending.
Things to note
- Inclusion on the watchlist is a rights-clearance step required when a “famous or known” artist is credited.
- This process is there to protect both you and partner platforms from unauthorized or improperly credited content.
- Even legitimate collaborations need signed agreements to prove the rights are cleared before distribution.
