CD Baby's release creation process defines a single release as one track only, and an album release as two tracks or more. However, once a release is delivered, we don't control the way that music stores categorize your release. 

Our digital partners have their own designations for a Single, EP, or an Album based on how many tracks are on the project and the total run time. Below are some examples of how this may appear on some platforms.

Spotify and other platforms

Singles

• The release has three (3) or fewer tracks.
• The release is under 30 minutes in duration.

EP

• The release has four to six (4-6) tracks.
• The release is under 30 minutes in duration.

Album

• The release has seven (7) or more tracks AND/OR
• The release is over 30 minutes in duration.

Various Artists

• If a release has 4 or more artists (including remixers), the release will be labled as 'Various Artists'.
• The artists' names will be listed on the track level.
• On the artists' individual pages, the "Various Artists" release will appear in the "Appears On" section.

Apple Music and iTunes

Singles

• Releases that meet the requirements below will automatically have “- Single” added to the release title in Apple Music and iTunes Store:
  • The release is one to three (1-3) tracks.
  • The entire release is 30 minutes or less and all individual tracks are less than 10 minutes.

EP

• Releases that meet the requirements below will automatically have "- EP" added to the title. EPs must meet one of the following two requirements:
  • The release has a total of one to three (1-3) tracks with one or more tracks 10+ minutes long, and the entire release is less than 30 minutes.
  • The release has a total of four to six (4-6) tracks and the entire release is less than 30 minutes.

Album

• Releases that meet the requirements below will appear on Apple as an album:
  • The release has seven (7) or more tracks.
  • The release is over 30 minutes in duration.

Compilation

• Releases will be categorized as a compilation on Apple if they meet either of the following criteria:
  • 5 or more primary artists are listed
  • Album consists of multiple tracks released over an 18 month period
