If your album includes more than one version of the same song—like a remix, live recording, or instrumental—you’ll need to label each version clearly. This helps listeners and digital platforms understand the differences and ensures your music is properly categorized. For example, you might release "Track Title (Live)" alongside "Track Title (Acoustic Version)."
How to label different versions of a song
Each version of a song must have a unique title that clearly identifies how it differs from the original. Here's how to do that:
- Add version info in parentheses after the track title
- Example: "Track Title (Live)"
- Example: "Track Title (Live)"
- Use descriptive terms that reflect the nature of the version
Accepted version labels
You can use any of the following (or similar) to differentiate your tracks:
- Live
- Bonus track
- Deluxe version
- Soundtrack from the motion picture
- Soundtrack from the TV series
- Music from the TV series
- Score
- Radio edit
- Remix
- Acoustic version
- Demo
- Instrumental version
- Re-recorded version
- Karaoke version
What about remastered versions?
- "Remastered" is not allowed in track titles.
- You can use "Remastered" in album titles for re-releases of albums or EPs
How should I format my remix titles?
- Remember that including "(Remix)" in the title implies a remixer, and you will need to add a remixer role in the artist name section for the track.
- In the track title, information entered in the parentheses should match the name of the remixer added in the remixer role:
- For example: "Track Title (Tiesto Remix)", Remixer name: Tiesto
- Any other information entered in the parentheses next to "Remix" will by interpreted by our partners as remixer names, and will appear alongside primary artist names on their platforms.
- If you want to creatively title your remix, e.g. "(Night Remix)", "(Gold Remix)", etc., please use "(Version)" instead.
Things to note
- Each track must be uniquely titled—even if it’s a variation of the same song
- Avoid generic titles like "Track 1" or "Instrumental 2"
- Make sure your metadata matches your artwork (e.g., if the cover says "Live," the track title should too)
- Clear labeling helps prevent confusion and ensures proper distribution across platforms
