At CD Baby we distribute more than traditional music. However, some genres may not be eligible for all services and may be treated differently by our distribution partners.
Production Sounds and CD Baby services
What are Production Sounds?
Production Sounds, or as they're called on some platforms "Noise Content", are defined as any non-music, non-spoken-word audio. This can include, but isn't limited to, white noise, pink noise, nature sounds, non-voiced ASMR, ambient noise, machine noise, sound effects, and silence recordings.
Production Sounds and CD Baby services
CD Baby can distribute Production Sounds to our streaming and download partners. However, Production Sounds are not eligible for social video monetization, as this type of content frequently generates false matches in YouTube or Meta's Content ID.
Production Sounds are not eligible for CDB Boost services. Non-musical works are not accepted by the MLC or SoundExchange and cannot be opted into Sync Licensing.
Production Sounds at Spotify
Spotify labels Production Sounds as Noise Content.
Beginning in 2024, Spotify has added a minimum 2-minute track length requirement for all noise content on their platform. Content that does not meet the 2-minute track minimum will be subject to removal and/or ineligible for payment. We will not be able to appeal these decisions.
In addition to the minimum track length, all content identified as Noise Content by Spotify will be paid 80% less than the rate for other content.
Production Sounds at Deezer
Deezer labels Production Sounds as Noise Content, and has begun removing these tracks from their platform.
In addition, they may elect to remove albums where every track is a different version of the same song, or any content that Deezer finds not to have been streamed within a 12-month period.
