If you earned payments from CD Baby during the year and provided tax info, we'll issue you a U.S. tax form (1099 or 1042-S). You can also download reports in your account to help with tax filing.
When and how are tax forms issued?
- CD Baby issues a 1099 (for U.S. persons) or 1042-S (for non-U.S. persons) if:
- You received payments in the year, and
- You have valid tax information on file
- The form reflects amounts paid, not necessarily amounts earned or reported elsewhere
- Your form will arrive early in the next year to help with your tax return preparation
How to access your income reports
You can extract detailed income data from various revenue sources in your account dashboard. Use them to reconcile for taxes.
- CD Baby Store (physical & digital) earnings
- Click “Sales & Reports → Sales & Accounting → CD Baby Sales (CDs or Digital)”
- Filter by date range (Jan 1 to Dec 31)
- Digital distribution (streaming, downloads) revenue
- Go to “Sales & Reports → Sales & Accounting → DD Sales by Partner”
- Set your year-range filter
- Pro Publishing / Royalty income
- Go to “Sales & Reports → Sales & Accounting → Pro Publishing Royalty Reports”
- Choose the quarter(s) needed to download a .txt file for spreadsheet use
Things to note
- CD Baby's Sales and Accounting data from our digital partners includes transactions from July 11, 2009 to present. Transactions prior to this date are no longer available in your account or in downloadable Lifetime Sales Reports.
- Our retail store was retired on April 1, 2020. No further retail earnings will occur after that date.
- Not all earnings may be included in your tax form (some revenue types don’t trigger 1099/1042 reporting)
