You can submit new music directly to Spotify to be considered for one of their curated playlists. Here's how!
Claim your Spotify For Artist page
Submit your song for playlist consideration
1. Distribute your single
You'll want to go through the normal process of signing up a new release. Once your title is inspected and distributed, make sure your single is marked "DELIVERED" on the following page in your CD Baby Members account:
- Log into your account
-
Click on the tab “Album & Singles” at the top of the page
-
Click on the green uppercase letters that say 'YES' under the 'Digital Distro?' header in your album line
-
Scroll down to "Spotify"; confirm it says "Delivered"
A note on Inspection
Please allow up to 5 business days for inspection. We always recommend selecting a release date at least 6 weeks, but no more than 2 years, from the date you submit for distribution to allow enough time to promote your music and ensure your release date is honored.
Please note: any time you make changes to your title, it takes it out of the inspection queue and puts it at the back of the line.
2. Claim your Spotify For Artist page
In order to claim your page on Spotify, follow these instructions:
- Log into your CD Baby account
-
Click on the tab "Tools & Promotion"
-
Click on the box the third from the left that says, "Get Instant Access"
-
Click on the button that says, "Get Access"
-
You'll either need to create a general Spotify account or sign in to your existing account. The feature works with Free and Premium Spotify accounts.
-
To sign up for a new account go here https://www.spotify.com/us/signup/)
-
-
You're all set! You should be inside of your Spotify For Artist page at this point. You'll now be able to log into your Spotify For Artist page through this page forever (you can also log in via https://artists.spotify.com/c/access/artist)!
Confirm that you've claimed your page on Spotify (get the blue checkmark + be able to use all the features a Spotify For Artist page has to offer).
2.b If this your first project to get delivered to Spotify (meaning you have nothing on Spotify yet)
We know it is not ideal, but if this is your first release and you don't have anything on Spotify yet, you will have to wait for your first release to go live in order to claim your artist page. You will have to wait to release your second release in order to submit for playlist consideration.
3. Submit your song for playlist consideration
Once your single has been delivered to Spotify (and you've claimed your Spotify For Artist page), you'll want to wait a 2-3 days before you begin checking your Spotify For Artist account to see if your single has landed in the "unreleased" section. Once it has, go ahead and follow these directions:
Here are Spotify’s instructions:
- Log in to Spotify for Artists on desktop, and find any unreleased music at the top of the Home or Profile tabs.
-
Select GET STARTED next to the release you want to submit. Or, go to Profile, right-click any unreleased music, and select Submit a Song.
-
Choose a song from the release to submit.
-
Fill out as much info about the song as possible. The more info we get, the better chance it has!
PLEASE NOTE: YOU NEED TO SUBMIT YOUR SINGLE FOR DISTRIBUTION (SEND YOUR MUSIC TO SPOTIFY) 2+ WEEKS PRIOR TO YOUR RELEASE DATE BECAUSE YOU MUST SUBMIT YOUR SINGLE FOR PLAYLIST CONSIDERATION AT LEAST 7 DAYS PRIOR TO YOUR RELEASE DATE.
