If you have a legacy CD Baby Pro Publishing release, we'll collect the publisher’s share of performance and mechanical royalties for compositions on behalf of songwriters.
We collect these from the US and abroad via Performing Rights Organizations and other collection agencies.
Where do these royalties originate from?
Performance royalty sources:
- Radio stations (terrestrial, satellite)
- TV stations (network, cable)
- Live venues (stadiums, bars, restaurants)
- Online streaming services (Spotify)
- Other (varies)
Mechanical royalty sources:
- Interactive streaming services (Spotify)
- Sales of music outside the US (iTunes, Amazon)
- Other (varies)
Do you collect royalties from recorded performances?
- No - royalties relating to the recorded performance of a song are collected through SoundExchange, and aren't part of revenue generated by CD Baby Pro Publishing.
- If you're already registered with SoundExchange, you will continue to be paid by them directly.
- We will collect some unclaimed digital performance royalties from SoundExchange for sound recordings only.
Do you collect royalties from podcasts?
- No. According to our sister company Songtrust, at this point in time podcasts "do not generate performance and/or mechanical royalties."
- While there may be a fee that is paid to the owner of the song from the owner of the podcast, "there are no additional publishing royalties generated from the streaming or downloading of said podcast at the moment."
- See more here.
A note about CD Baby Pro Publishing:
The CD Baby Pro Publishing service was discontinued as of August 8th, 2023. Any paid release which was signed up for CD Baby Pro Publishing prior to August 8th, 2023 is considered a legacy Pro release and will continue to receive Pro Publishing services. CD Baby now offers a new expanded suite of revenue amplifiers called “CDB Boost” instead.
