When submitting a classical album, it’s important to enter composer information accurately to meet partner platform standards and avoid metadata issues. This article explains how to format composer names, when to credit arrangers, and how to handle additional track details like versions or translations.
How to enter composer information
- Always enter the full name of the composer in the Songwriter section.
- Correct: Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven
- Incorrect: JS Bach, Beethoven
- You can reference full composer names using the IMSLP (International Music Score Library Project).
Who should be listed as a composer?
- Only list the composer of the work. Don't list lyricists, librettists, or yourself as arranger (unless you composed the original work).
Composer-performer matching
If the composer is also a performer on the album:
- The artist name must exactly match the name entered in the Songwriter field.
Crediting arrangers
If you wish to credit yourself as an arranger, do so in the track title, not the songwriter field.
- For example: Préludes, Book I, L. 117: VII. La fille aux cheveux de lin (Arr. by Stephanie McDonald)
Adding version or translation info
Include additional details like translations, versions, or editions in parentheses at the end of the track title.
- For example: The Carnival of the Animals: XIII. The Swan (Arr. for Cello and Piano)
L’isle joyeuse, L. 106 (Revised 1947 Version)
