By opting your music into sync licensing through CDB Boost, you grant CD Baby the right to license your music for film, television, video games, YouTube, presentations, and anything else that pays.
Music users have the ability to access our sync library to license any CD Baby artist's music that is opted-in to this service.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible for sync licensing through CDB Boost, you must meet the following requirements:
- Your project must be opted in for digital distribution through CD Baby
- You must own the rights to your sound recording
- You must own the rights to the publishing or possess the proper license for cover songs
If your content contains samples or royalty-free beats, please review your license for sync eligibility.
Who could license my music?
TV networks, advertising agencies, film production companies, game studios as well as background music providers and audio advertisements.
How long does it take to get licensed?
There is no way to predict how long it could take to place your music, but we're constantly looking for opportunities to match music with available placements.
If your music is licensed for a commercial, tv show, video game or film, you will not necessarily be notified in advance. You will be made aware of all licenses in your member's accounting section as payments are received and processed.
How much will I get paid?
There is no fixed amount. For placements in movies, commercials, and TV, the payments for sync licensing will typically be larger, but they are different for every project.
If you receive a placement, payments will be issued quarterly and will be visible in the accounting section of your CD Baby Member account.
For sync placements in traditional media such as commercials, films and television, you earn 60% of the fees we collect on your behalf.
How will people find my music?
We will promote your music to thousands of music supervisors and licensing professionals worldwide who will have direct access to our entire sync library via a user-friendly, searchable database. We need your help in providing us with metadata that describes your music accurately. Taking special care to add proper genres and descriptive terms when setting up your submission will improve the chances of your music being discovered.
If you are a Music Supervisor or need licensing assistance, please visit CDBabyLicensing.com.
Will opting-in for sync licensing affect other licensing arrangements I have in place with other companies?
The sync licensing services are non-exclusive, meaning you can work with other agencies too, but you should verify with any other sync licensing companies you are working with to be sure. If you have an exclusive deal with another company, yes, it will interfere. If you have a non-exclusive deal with another sync company there shouldn’t be any conflict.
If I opt in, do I retain rights to my music?
Yes.
With our sync licensing service through CDB Boost, you retain ownership of all of your copyrights. However, you ARE granting non-exclusive rights for synchronization so that your music can be used for syncs in tv, advertising, video games, and film without your direct approval. A song that has been pre-approved is always more desirable in the eyes of music supervisors and production teams who are looking to license your music.
