A message from CD Baby's DIY Musician Blog and Podcast host, Chris Robley:
CD Baby is a responsible part of the modern music industry, and is governed by the tax laws of the United States. As the music industry grows and changes, your responsibilities and ours must change with it.
The biggest change is that our system will now require all artists, worldwide, to provide tax information before we can issue payments. This will allow us to provide end-of-year tax documents showing total payments and any amount withheld.
This is true for everyone whether or not you have provided tax information before, and whether or not you want to keep your previous payment method.
If you have payment and tax info saved in our new system, and if you are over your pay point, you will be paid as usual. However, if you have not entered a tax ID, or if the tax ID is invalid, we will need to withhold at the default amount (24% for US persons/30% non-US persons). This amount will appear as withheld on your year-end tax forms.
F.A.Q.
As we roll out this new system, you may notice your weekly payment appearing later in the week than usual.
