In order to be eligible for sync licensing through CDB Boost, you must meet the following requirements:
- Your project must be opted in for digital distribution through CD Baby
- You must own the rights to your sound recording
- You must own the rights to the publishing or possess the proper license for cover songs
If your content contains samples or royalty-free beats please review your license for sync eligibility.
What types of licenses are there?
This grants us the right to license your music for film, television, video games, YouTube, presentations, and anything else that pays.
This includes any type of project or production that makes use of multimedia or new media platforms. Examples include website-music, online video sharing (e.g., videos on YouTube, Facebook & Instagram), presentations, and apps (including app-games).
Who licenses my music?
TV networks, advertising agencies, film production companies, game studios as well as background music providers and audio advertisements.
How long does it take to get licensed?
"Patience, grasshopper." Matching the right music to the right project takes time.
If your music is licensed for a commercial, tv show, video game or film, you will not be notified immediately. You will be made aware of all licenses in your member's accounting section as payments are received and processed.
How much will I get paid?
The short answer is: it depends completely on the type of usage of your music. For placements in movies, commercials, and TV, the payments for sync licensing will typically be larger, but they are different for every project.
Like everything in the business, there are few accurate ways to gauge success in advance. Sync licensing through CDB Boost is a great way to get your music working for you, so it’s added revenue that you probably weren’t seeing before.
If you do get a placement we will issue payments quarterly. Payments will be visible in the accounting section of your CD Baby Member account.
For sync placements in traditional media such as commercials, films and television, you earn 60% of the fees we collect on your behalf.
How will people find my music?
We will promote your music to thousands of music supervisors and licensing professionals worldwide who will have direct access to our entire sync library via a user-friendly, searchable database. We need your help in providing us with metadata that describes your music accurately. Taking special care to add proper genres and descriptive terms when setting up your submission will help to ensure your music gets discovered.

Will opting-in for sync licensing affect other licensing arrangements I have in place with other companies?
The sync licensing services are non-exclusive (meaning you can work with other agencies too!)
You should verify with the other sync licensing companies, though. If you have an exclusive deal with another company, yes, it will interfere. If you have a non-exclusive deal with another sync company there shouldn’t be any problems.
However, the YouTube and Facebook Monetization portions of our licensing program ARE EXCLUSIVE, so you need to make sure that you haven’t granted those particular rights to anyone else.
